Too Faced has re-released their Summer Eyes palette for Summer 2013. The eye shadows are exactly the same as last year, except for a new addition, Seashell, which replaced Sugar Sand. The packaging has also been updated – and I have to say I prefer it this way. All of the shadows are housed in this compact, little tin with a handy mirror, making it perfect for Summer traveling!
Summer Eyes showcases a floral and beachy pattern.
Summer Eyes is much smaller than the Urban Decay Build Your Own Palette.
The eye shadows themselves are nicely pigmented and have a great texture (as I find with all of the Too Faced shadows). There is a pretty good range of colors including pink, coral, dark teal, peach, two flesh tones, and three shades of brown. There is a mix of finishes, mainly shimmers or glitters, with Seashell being the only satin. Both Peach Fuzz and Sunbeam look too glittery in the pan, but much to my relief the glitter does not transfer quite as strong. All of the colors are warm toned, except for Mermaid. So if you prefer cooler tones when it comes to eye shadow, you may want to skip this palette.
For those of you who have trouble pairing eye shadows together, Summer Eyes was designed to help. The palette suggests three different types of looks: Day, Classic, and Fashion.
It also seems like this palette was constructed to be multipurpose. Seashell could also be worn as s blush and both Peach Fuzz and Sunbeam could be used as highlighters (although they are a bit too glittery for my taste).
Day from L to R:Seashell, Plumeria, Cocoa Beach (over primer)
Classic from L to R: Peach Fuzz, Coral Crush, Chocolate Sun (over primer)
Fashion from L to R: Sunbeam, Mermaid, Toasted Coconut (over primer)
Overall this is a nice palette, the quality is good and the shadows have cute, summertime names. My only criticism is that three different shades of dark brown seems excessive. Although they are different finishes, I still would have preferred three shades that were very clearly dissimilar.
