Out of all of the monthly box subscriptions, Julep Maven is my favorite. Although I have mentioned numerous Julep products in past posts, I have never actually spoken about their monthly box service. As much as I love my Birchbox and Ipsy subscriptions, Julep Maven really does offer the best perks. I have been subscribed to Julep Maven for a year now, and I love it!
Julep Maven is $20/month, but unlike Birchbox and Ipsy, on the 20th of each month, Julep Maven subscribers receive an email (or you can log into your account on their website) with a preview of the box you will be receiving. If you don’t like the box you have been given, you can switch to a different style (Julep has a couple of different curated boxes each month) or you can skip the box entirely for that month, which also works out great if you are trying to budget yourself that month.
Julep is a fairly pricey brand – one polish is $14 and is only .27 oz, where OPI is .5 oz, so Julep contains about half the amount of product for double the price. Their Maven programs offers all of their products (which include nail polish, hand care, foot care, body products, and more) at discounted prices for subscribers.
1. Members receive 20% off all regular priced products from Julep’s online store, as well as free shipping.
2. Julep also offers a reward system, where you receive points for taking your boxes each month and for purchasing anything from their online store (excluding sale items). You can use the reward points toward add-ons to be shipped with your monthly box. Which brings me to perk #3…
3. Add-ons! Each month Julep selects a handful of products, mainly the items being offered in all of the boxes, at a much discounted price. In the add-on section of your monthly box selection, you can buy polishes for $4.99 (they are regularly $14) and other selected products at a much less expensive price. You can also use your reward points toward the add-ons to receive items for free. 750 points is equal to a free add-on polish.
4. Julep also offers a Secret Store, that opens on the first of each month for 72 hours. Maven members will receive an email with a link to the store. There, Julep also sells selected products at even more amazing prices.
Here is what I selected as my October box:
Julep Maven IT Girl Box for October 2013
L to R: Missy, Ciara, Kendra
The IT Girl style box always contains three polishes, but the other boxes contain two polishes and a beauty product. Julep also offers one non-polish box that contains two beauty products. All of the items in the Julep Maven boxes are full-size. If I were the purchase these three polishes without the Maven subscription, it would retail $42.
The only minor downside I have found is that Julep is a small company, so if you need to call there, you will be on hold for quite a while. But their customer service is great once you get someone on the other end of the phone!
Do any of you subscribe to Julep Maven? What are your recommendations for other monthly subscription boxes?
