Beauty Picks for Thanksgiving ’13

Thanksgiving is just around the corner for all of us who live in America, and I am one of those sad people who plans out their makeup and nail polish for every holiday. But, as much as I get into wearing festive makeup, I don’t want to spend my entire holiday putting my makeup on.

Here some makeup items that are really quick to apply, but will still make you feel autumnal and polished. I also tried to keep in mind that many people travel for Thanksgiving, so there are many travel-friendly products here.

L to R: Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream, Benefit Watts Up!, Rimmel Scandaleyes in 005 Nude

I chose the Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream because it is very easy to travel with (it is only 1 oz. and the packaging it practical for traveling). However, I really like BB creams and tinted moisturizers in general for traveling because you can just put them on with your fingers, so you don’t need to pack a brush.

Sticking with the whole not packing too many brushes – Benefit Watts Up! is a great product because it is a cream highlighter in stick form, so you can just apply this to the tops of your cheek bones and blend with your finger. I also really like using the Rimmel Scandaleyes in Nude on my waterline, which takes out any redness and just makes me look more awake.

Top Row L to R: Nylon, Honey Lust

Bottom Row L to R: Sable, Cork

I just made a little quad of MAC eye shadows, because I prefer to customize my palettes. Nylon is a great eye shadow to highlight the inner corners of your eyes. I find that adding a light shimmery color in my tear duct area just helps to brighten and make me look more awake, which is a necessity if you have been traveling or are tired from preparing for the holiday.

Honey Lust and Sable are great, neutral shades for autumn. Neither one are too high maintenance, so it’s very easy to just put these shades all over the lid. I really like Cork for my crease, but it also doubles as an eyebrow powder for me. If you are traveling during Thanksgiving (or even Christmas), a great tip would be to find products with multiple uses.

Sleek Blush by 3 in Sugar

I know it may be a bit controversial to pick out a cheek product that isn’t easily accessible in the U.S. when talking about an American holiday, but the Sleek Blush by 3 in Sugar is really fantastic for anyone who is traveling. It’s very compact (it fits right in my hand) and you can have three blush shades to choose from on your trip without taking up any space in your makeup bag. If you live in the U.S., these are available from Sleek MakeUP, Amazon, or eBay and are completely worth it.

L to R: Maybelline Mauve Mania, Maybelline Bit of Berry, MAC On Hold, MAC Cockney

I tried to keep the lipstick choices fairly neutral, especially since all you pretty much do on Thanksgiving is eat. Maybelline Mauve Mania, Maybelline Bit of Berry, and MAC On Hold are some of my all-time favorite lipsticks for this time of year.

If you like red lipstick, I really recommend MAC Cockney because it’s a sheer red, so it requires practically no maintenance throughout the day (I don’t even use lip liner with this lipstick). I will probably wear this when I go shopping on Black Friday because I like to feel Christmasy, but I don’t have to worry about fiddling with my lipstick.

L to R: China Glaze Poinsettia, Julep Boris & Nicole, OPI You Don’t Know Jacques!

All three of these nail polishes are really beautiful. I am pretty sure that I’m going to wear China Glaze Poinsettia this year. I typically like to wear red nail polish on Thanksgiving because it makes me feel very festive since Christmas is right around the corner. Julep Boris & Nicole has been one of my favorites this autumn, and is great if you are looking for a deeper shade to wear. I also like OPI You Don’t Know Jacques!, which is a taupe shade and is great for anyone looking to wear a very neutral nail polish.

What are your Thanksgiving plans? Have you decided on what makeup or nail polish you are going to wear this year for the holiday?

Those Sleek blushes look divine! I’ve yet to try them but I think I need to. Did you find, with the CC cream that it pulls a bit orange-y on you or am I just a weirdo? Thanks for sharing!

I got a sample of Watts Up from Sephora but didn’t really know how to use it — thanks for the tip. Cork is one of my favorite eyeshadows; I think I’ll have to take a look at Sable next time I’m at a MAC counter. What could be more perfect for the holidays than a polish called Poinsettia?? I haven’t found my “go to” red yet, so I’ll look for that one. Thanks for all the suggestions!
